Using up extra yarn: Afghan

I had several balls of brown and green yarns left over from previous project so I crocheted up this Afghan with them.  A little different from the Granny Square, Afghan, I started this one in a circle (see picture below) and then changed it into a square at the fourth row.  I really like how the colors blended together.  At first this was just going to be a small baby sized afghan, but I decided to make it larger for one of my little brothers.

Here I put it in with my cowboy boots to make the picture look more rustic for the listing...  yep they are Tony Lama boots for sale, so drop me a line if you want them! :)

I recently learned how to knit with Sashay yarn...  yep it's tedious, but the concept is easy to figure out and it takes awhile to get used to... :)  But after a few instructional videos on YouTube I finally got it (or at least I had it for awhile).

Here's what Sashay yarn looks like:

Here's what the basic scarf looks like when it's done (I've made one, but haven't taken any pictures yet):

One of the hardest things I've found about using the yarn is the way it's rolled up on the ball.  It's tedious to flatten it out and find the next spaces to use.  The other day I made a flat object out of foil, tape, and parchment paper.  Then I tapped (masking tape) the yarn flat on the paper and wound the yarn around it-- as you can see in the picture-- making sure it's flat.  I haven't tried it yet, but it looks like it's going to work better then the normal ball of yarn,

Here's some more pattern ideas for Sashaying-- beyond the basic scarf. :)

Blog Review!

Hello Everyone!

It's time for another review...  today I'm going to review a lovely little shop called "Sweet Emily's Vintage".  Miss Nansea (the shop owner) has many unique items that lovely, quaint, and vintage!  Here are a few favorites:

First Lady of the Confederacy Cameo~

Victorian Jewels~

Pocked Watch~

Many different Southern Inspired Cameos (I *love* these!!) and other Cameos~

Miss Nansea sent me this one to review!  Thank you, Nansea!  It is lovely and very well made!  I added a ribbon to mine (even though it is possible to wear as a pin) and someone *always* asks me about it whenever I wear it! :)  The Latin words have been great conversation starters and I've even had a few people talk about Latin signs they have. :)

Here's a picture of myself wearing it:

My sis over at Eden's Evaluations always rates things in "number" out of 5 stars...  So I would totally rate this item 5 out of 5 stars!!

Head over here and check out Miss Nansea's shop and all of her lovely items!  Remember to add it to your favorites on Etsy. :)

Little Tait Giveaway Benefit

I was so excited when my friend Madison over at Dolly Madison Designs contacted me about helping with a giveaway bundle for Little Tait's Preemie Fund Giveaway! :)  So, the Flexi pictured above from Lilla Rose~Shiloh Ariel   will be included in the bundle...  read below to see how you can help out!

Have you heard about this little guy? His name is Tait Zimmerman Jr. He was born premature four years ago. You can read all about Little Tait's story here.

According to

Preemies are expensive. (But totally worth it, of course!) Just the cost of using a single bed-space in the NICU runs around $3000 a day. Little Tait was pretty much literally a “million-dollar baby,” before any reductions were made on his bills. At this point, by God’s grace, and through the help of so many people, all of his bills are taken care of … except the big one: the hospital bill.
Over the past few months, they have been working to raise $100,000 dollars. If they can raise this amount of money by Monday, the hospital will settle Little Tait's account. So far, they have a little over $77k. But time is running out.  -from Shelby's blog

So, help a Christian family when you donate to Little Tait's Preemie Fund- in doing so you will receive a voucher for one free custom graphic and will also be automatically entered into  when you enter this giveaway you'll be automatically entered into the give-away. :)

Changing Colors in Crochet

Ever wondered about how to change colors while crocheting?  Or even adding in another color during the project?  This video explains it very well!

Sun Dress

My little sister has been growing so much this past year that she's growing out of all her dresses! So, in my spare time lately, I've been adding material, ruffle, etc. to make her dresses longer. :) This particular dress it one that I cut out of a skirt. I used one of her other dresses as a pattern for the bodice and just gathered the skirt enough to fit the bodice. Viola! :)

Here is the bottom edge of the dress-- same hem as the skirt!  Then there is an up close of the little funny mirrors that are all over the material.  Next is a picture of the stitching I did for the neck of the dress.

Coming soon are some pictures of the projects we are currently working on!

Thoughts?  What would you have done?  Something different?  An addition?  :)

New Project Finished!

I just finished this mini afghan. :) I have some extra yarn from other projects that needed using up! So I made this little blanket to use as a gift for a future baby....
Here's a flower in the middle- to add an extra touch...
Patterns of Summer colors :)
Edging- just chains of 3 and alternating single crochet and slip-stitch.  I really like how it turned out!

Dear Maggie's Ear Warmer

I made this one for my Grandmother.  But the name means something else....  something that will be revealed eventually. :)

The Bramble Stitch

Quite a hard stitch as it involves a lot of counting, but it leaves with you a very pretty pattern and delicate look.

Another Ear Warmer.... yet again! :)

I made another Ear Warmer!  This one is pink and gray with a button from of off old army pants of all things! :)  I also added a few embellishments on this one.

A view of the flower...  same pattern as the Poinsettia.

I love using the Lion Brand Wool Blend...  it gives a very pretty blend with the colors.

My sister, Havilah is wearing it here- even though it is an adult's size.

One of the tiny, tiny flowers... once again the body of the warmer is the Irish Moss stitch- my favorite!

Poinsettia Ear Warmer

I finished my Ear Warmer that I mentioned in this post!!  This is absolutely one of my favorite patterns and styles for the Ladies' Ear Warmer.  The Irish Moss Stitch not only looks lovely, but also gives the Ear Warmer a bit of a stretch.

I love how beautifully the gray and red colors blend together and then the steel button adds such a lovely touch!

The flower is a Poinsettia for which I was so happy to find a simple pattern for online.

What are some of your favorite colors to blend together?
