Eden Laurel

Delightful sister!
Eager to help!
Never boring...  ;)

It's hard to realize that my little sister, De-De whom I prayed would be added to our family 14 years ago when I was 6 is actually 13 years old today!

De-De, you are a blessing to our family and we love you!

Girls Have Fun! what we told Havilah as we headed out to a evening of "Official Ladies' Time".  :)  Girls' Time is fun!  We laugh, we hit the "hot spots", we go all over the place (literally!), we get lost (really we did once in Texas), we trip over each other in the airport (first time flying as just ladies), we film vlogs about how much fun we are going to have, we blog about it, we ice skate, we Skype with Auntie Kaggy, we have a movie night of all girls, we talk, and we have a Blast! together....

Recently, the day came for Girls' Time again.....

We stopped at JoAnns....
"Mommy, What fabric do you like best?"

Then Bath&Body Works...
We have fun!

Next stop was Famous Footwear
Searching for Sales! ;)
We Smiled...

We laughed...

We had fun!

And as Havilah says, "Girlez Time, girlez have fun!"

Last Kilt Down!

I finished Judah's kilt today!!  Judah's kilt is nearly identical to Benjamin's except for the fact that it's larger and has more pleats.  Judah was super excited to try on his outfit!!

Here are some pictures of the sewing process... Pinning-- lots of it!, Pleats all over the place, and fringes!  I simply love the way the fringes turned out on Judah's kilt!!

I'm beginning to think of going into business making kilts. :)  Here's the back of the kilt-- where all the pleats are:

Judah shows the pleats on the back of the kilt
Closing Thoughts: I never dreamed I'd end of making kilts someday when I first learned to sew :), but they are super easy to make and worth the effort!

A Word of Advice: Should you every try to sew a kilt: "Pin, pin, and pin".  I dislike taking time to pin, but in the long run it's worth it!

Scotland the Brave

by Cliff Hanley
Hark when the night is falling
Hear! hear the pipes are calling,
Loudly and proudly calling,
Down thro' the glen.
There where the hills are sleeping,
Now feel the blood a-leaping,
High as the spirits
of the old Highland men.
Towering in gallant fame,
Scotland my mountain hame,
High may your proud
standard gloriously wave,
Land of my high endeavour,
Land of the shining rivers,
Land of my heart for ever,
Scotland the brave.
High in the misty Highlands,
Out by the purple islands,
Brave are the hearts that beat
Beneath Scottish skies.
Wild are the winds to meet you,
Staunch are the friends that greet you,
Kind as the love that shines
from fair maidens' eyes.
Far off in sunlit places,
Sad are the Scottish faces,
Yearning to feel the kiss
Of sweet Scottish rain.
Where tropic skies are beaming,
Love sets the heart a-dreaming,
Longing and dreaming for the homeland again.

One Sewing Project Down- Two More to Go!

I just finished Benjamin's kilt for the upcoming Scottish Highland Games!!  Thankfully, I was able to find a pattern online for making a doll's kilt so in order to make a little boy's kilt-- I just up scaled the pattern, read the directions, and applied it to my case.  Below are some pictures of the process and then a picture of the finished project.  Benjamin is very excited about his Scottish kilt!

My Latest Sewing Project

Fabric, Sewing Along, & Lace :)

This is a dress that I was originally was making for De-De many years ago....  however we ran out of fabric and had to set it aside.  We planned to search the Internet and find more matching fabric, but we never did!  :)

Fast forward to the year of 2011....  De-De has grown so much that she doesn't fit in the pattern size anymore.... but she has a little sister. :)  Thankfully, I was able to take the front panel of this dress and cut it in half to make a back panel.  I used the extra fabric to make a tier on the bottom of the dress and Ta-da!  it worked!!

To top it off~ I also was able to finish the jacket (which was attend for De-De).  Although it's a bit large on Havilah-- it still looks cute with the dress and she can grow into it. :)

After being inspired by another lady's blog I had so much fun making these ruffles!  They look great and they cover up all the knots my machine made (shhh!).  My sewing machine and I agree-- t-shirt material is extremely hard to sew with!  I was also excited to find the adorable, little start button in my mother's button box.  It adds the perfect touch!

And here is the finished product hanging up in the tree outside on a warm, sunny day just looking lovely!

4 Sisters~ Finally a Picture!!

We've been needing a picture of all four of us sisters for a looooooooong time now!  So, on Father's Day we decided that in our Sunday best-- it was time for the perfect picture!

Bethany brought out her camera and we all posed by a lovely backdrop (also known as a fence), but alas it was too sunny!  So, those "shots" didn't work out....

We made it home and decided to try the picture taking project again (we desperately need a picture!), but  alas everyone was tired after such a long day (and ahem sleeping the in car on the way home!) and so our smiles just didn't turn out quite well...
